Why Port Douglas Should Be On Your Bucket List

Why Port Douglas Should Be On Your Bucket List

The best part about your bucket list is that it belongs to YOU! Make it as long or as short as you please, fill it with what your heart desires. Learn a language, travel the world, jump out of a plane… however, there’s one very important unspoken rule. It is; travelling to Port Douglas in Australia must make an appearance on that vast list of things to do before kicking the bucket (which sounds quite grim, but it’s the truth behind the concept!).

We’re here to tell you why this tropical town in Queensland should be right up there with visiting the Eiffel Tower – and just quietly, we think we’ve got much more to offer than little old Paree!

Great Barrier Reef

Without an ounce of doubt, the GBR alone deserves a spot on your bucket list! People travel from near and far to explore this other-worldly underwater sensation – and once you’ve seen it for yourself, you’ll understand why. There’s something truly magical about the abundant animal and coral species you encounter while snorkeling, swimming or diving through the deep blues of the ocean. If you’re yet to experience the reef in Tropical North Queensland, it will blow your mind! If you’ve been lucky enough to visit before, a return trip to this natural wonder of the world won’t go astray.

Daintree Rainforest

Be welcomed into the oldest living rainforest in the world by an unbelievable array of flora and fauna! There are many ways to venture through this spectacular region that include epic road trips, brilliant tours or scenic hiking just to name a few. The Daintree rainforest is over 180 million years old, so it is absolutely riddled with immense beauty – you can just imagine the amount of pristine spots there are to discover there. It would be seriously ludicrous to miss out on travelling the ancient Daintree Rainforest when in Far North Queensland.

Four Mile Beach

There’s no place more glorious than Four Mile Beach for every sunrise or your daily dose of the sea in Port Douglas! Pitch an umbrella, hire a sun lounge and bring along your favourite holiday read or a fabulous music playlist – you’ll be set for hours relaxing by the ocean. It’s simply paradise. You can walk to the patrolled area of the beach from Pool Resort, and from there it’s only a short stroll into town. There, you’ll find a variety of ways to leisurely pass the time from shopping to a fantastic market scene. And then, back to the beach you go!

Foodies Paradise

So it’s clear that we have all the beautiful outdoor places you could ever wish for, but what else do we have in store for you in Port Douglas? Let us say, we certainly aren’t lacking in the food and drink department – foodies will relish in our never-ending collection of exceptional bars and restaurants. Wherever you dine, the fresh and local seafood is always a top choice, and there’s also many tasty options for international cuisines. Plus, ending your getaway days with celebratory drinks, perhaps to thank yourself for adding PD to the bucket list, is always a great idea. Cheers!

Wildlife Haven

Australia is renown for it’s weird and wonderful creatures from jellyfish and crocodiles to kangaroos and cuddly koala bears. The marine life on the Great Barrier Reef is nothing short of outstanding – a standard GBR adventure will likely include sightings of majestic Green Sea Turtles, friendly reef sharks, sea snakes and a tonne of colourful fish and coral! For some snapping action, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures is an awesome place to go on croc and wildlife tours – you can even watch these monstrous beasts be fed! You’ll notice in the Daintree plenty of road signs that ask you to be “Cass-o-wary” … this is where you may see Australia’s heaviest bird. Cassowaries are usually spotted with one or two spotted chicks following them through the forest.

It’s settled. We’re guessing that a trip to Port Douglas is exactly what was missing from your bucket list – we hope to meet you here sooner rather than later!
